Tasting Notes

Springbank_15_rumwood_Main

Nose: Strong notes of cereal grain and rich creamy vanilla. There’s fresh tropical notes of pineapple and some slightly herbal notes as well.

Palate: The mouthfeel is thick, oily and spicy. Baking spices paired with bittersweet grapefruit are dominant with only a hint of the vanilla sweetness from the nose.

Finish: Long in length and bursting with creamy lemon meringue. There is more grapefruit to be found and the finish ends with notes of green banana and wood spice.

Rating: 7/10

Conclusion: This whisky shines in its finish. There is a delicious burst of flavor with the most notable rum influence for me. The nose here is fairly muted, but the palate is interesting and has a lovely, oily weight to it. But it is the finish that truly elevates the entire pour. There’s no peat influence that I can detect, and while this isn’t a particularly complex whisky, the flavors that are here work harmoniously together for a very sweet, dessert-forward whisky with just enough spice to balance the rum sweetness.
