Springbank 15 is a part of their core line-up. It is distilled 2.5 times before being matured in 100% sherry barrels for a minimum of 15 years. It is also bottled without any added coloring or chill filtration. This particular bottle is from 2/1/2018.
Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose opens with barley sugar and cinnamon. There’s some vanilla, brown sugar and cooked fruits. That’s followed by a hint of nutmeg with some leather as well as raisin and chalk.
Palate: A medium-weight mouthfeel opens up with sweet and savory notes of salted caramel and toasted hazelnut. After that comes wood char, barrel sugars and baking spices.
Finish: The finish has a nice length. Springbank’s subtle peat influence shows up here with some soft smoke notes. More barley sugar sweetness comes through as do the toasted hazelnuts of the palate & the vanilla from the nose.
Rating: 9/10
Conclusion: This is a very elegant whisky. It is dangerously sippable with a beautiful integration of flavors. There is more barrel influence and a bit more smoke than either the Springbank 10 or 12. In regards to other Springbank releases, this dram is a bit less earthy but it is one of my favorite Springbank’s so far.
